Inspired by classic 18th-century Louis XV chairs, the traditional Rococo carvings and ornamentation have been stripped away to showcase the chair's exquisite curved lines.
Custom designed and built by hand in America. The dramatic dome and deep wings were designed to fend off drafts, with solid oak legs and exposed frame in custom colour “vintage weathered oak and white wash”.
The interior is upholstered textured weave with a plush padded seat for comfort and a scatter cushion in matching fabric. The back is in the same natural material as the seat, and all finishes are accented with decorative piping.
Furniture reflects the social political, and cultural environment in which it is created. Perhaps this design more than any other chair in history.
Going as far back as the grand chateaux of 16th-century France, le concierge, job was to stand at the main entrance of a home to determine whether a visitor was fit to enter. These homes could get chilly, the visitor would sit in a chair much like this with the high back and canopy to keep him warm while waiting.
